Re: World Service Business Conference 2025

Welcome to our 64th Annual World Service Business Conference (WSBC) of Overeaters Anonymous. This year the Conference will be virtual. I will be in person as will the first vice chair, the staff, our parliamentarian, and audio-visual technicians.

This is a great opportunity to attend without the travel. I do know a fair amount of you will be joining in the evening and in the middle of the night. I also know it isn’t ideal. Thank you for making this an adventure since we do need to set this up on United States time due to the availability of our staff and technicians.

In 2020 we did meet virtually because I was elected as a trustee, but it wasn’t a formal Conference. Nevertheless, even a pandemic could not stop us from meeting in recovery. Then in 2021, we had over 240 people online conducting the business of OA. And in 2022, we had over 200! It was so fun to see people from around the world. And now in 2025 we will do this again.

Why a Conference?

Thank you for taking your time, whether it’s vacation or free time to actively participate in the livelihood of Overeaters Anonymous. Having an annual Conference is one of the ways we have kept this organization humming with life for over sixty years. It is your dedication, passion, and belief that this recovery community is worth putting our effort, creativity, and ideas to work. We get to practice the Twelfth Tradition of putting principles before personalities when we work together, and we get energized with new thoughts and ways to make dreams a reality.

Delegate Binder

Please take the time to read all the wonderful goodness in this Binder. This is an overview of all the work the Fellowship has participated in since the last Conference. You’ll find a lot of information such as committee reports (Conference and board), financials, agenda, regional updates, and trustee applications. The Binder will be available to registered delegates in April 2025.

Green Dots

If this will be your first Conference, you will be known as a Green Dot. You will be paired with a Mentor (a delegate who has been to at least one Conference). This person can answer questions and help you understand the process and navigate what it’s like to be a part of a committee with other fellows from around the world. If you’re able, please connect with each other before Conference so that any questions you have can be answered. In addition, if you can meet another time during Conference breaks that can prove helpful as well.

Business Meetings

You will see that we have five separate business meetings. The schedule is published on oa.org where you can learn what time they start and end. These are all the types of things you get to learn and discover:

Meet the trustees who are running for a new term. For some, this will be their first time interviewing for the position, while others will be applying for an additional term. You will hear their overview and there will be time for questions.

  • Hear questions and answers about committee reports.
  • Hear the Serenity Prayer said in different languages.
  • Participate in discussion and voting on the motions that came from our fellows.
  • Meet the Maker will be virtual again this year.

In this session, you can meet the maker of the motions. You will participate in breakout rooms and hear the details about those motions you want to learn more about.
Last year was the second time it was virtual, and it was a great success.

Check into the OA website when you get your email reminders. What an exciting challenge as we discover unique and refreshing ways to use our creativity, technology, and message to help people who are wanting to find us—and what an AWESOME group of recovering fellows we are.

I’m so excited to see you virtually with over 200 others. Help us keep OA alive and thrive!

In service to OA,

Meg M.
