The OA Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Dan Sandweiss of Albuquerque, New Mexico, has been hired as the new Managing Director of the OA World Service Office (WSO). Dan brings a wealth of executive-level experience, a passion for mission-driven nonprofits, and a personal connection to our program as “friends and family” of the OA member.
Both Dan and the OA trustees are eager to begin writing a new chapter in OA’s history, and they are committed to aligning world service resources in ways that better empower our groups and service bodies so together we can foster strong, capable, and inclusive Fellowship that meets the challenges of attracting the still-suffering compulsive eater, both today and long into the future. “I’m excited about the opportunity to work with staff, board members, and the Fellowship to make a difference for all,” says Dan.
As we welcome Dan, we are grateful to continue relying on outgoing Managing Director, Sarah Armstrong, who will retire this October. Sarah started her 24-year career at the WSO in 1999. For sixteen years, she managed our Accounting Department, and it is no exaggeration to say that she has reconciled more than a million transactions in support of OA’s Seventh Tradition—truly remarkable! Sarah, we thank you and wish you a very happy retirement in the coming weeks.
The WSO has also bid fond farewell to Kristal, our lead receptionist who answered your phone calls and emails for the past nineteen years. Kristal’s retirement came a little sooner than expected, so we took a message: “I have enjoyed talking to each and every one of you, and the time has just flown by. Thank you all for making my job so rewarding.”
Finally, the welcome for our new receptionist, Sandy, is actually a welcome back! Sandy is a returning employee who worked at the WSO from 1994–2001, and we are thrilled she has rejoined the team. When we say “Keep coming back,” we really mean it! Keep coming back!
